Building learners
How your child sees and relates to themselves is an important part of their education journey. Our goal is to help your child feeling capable and understood.
We teach students to be patient with themselves when something is hard, to take risks, and how to ask for what they need. When your child needs someone to advocate on their behalf, we have systems of support to ensure that happens.
Advocating for your child
The Early Interventionist works alongside teachers and counselors. They support self-regulation, motor development, language acquisition, number sense, and early literacy. Students requiring this support are identified through developmental screeners and teacher observation.
Learning Support specialists work alongside classroom teachers for skill-based interventions in reading, written expression, math, executive functioning, and sensory needs. Classroom accommodations and modified curriculum are implemented where needed.
Accommodations adapt to MYP and DP demands. Specialists help older students manage complex timetables and high-stakes assessment. The team facilitates access arrangements for IB and College Board external exams.
How EAL Works
Every teacher is a language teacher. Our EAL program is a blended model: intentional small groups combined with co-teaching inside classes.
Across all sections, teachers use translanguaging practices. Your child can draw on their home language to access content, not just English.
Learning Support Questions
We use universal screening, classroom data, and teacher and parent observations. If there is a concern, the Student Care team reviews it and plans support. You are involved from the start.
Your child’s strengths, areas of need, specific learning goals, support they will receive, and accommodations in place. Reviewed regularly, and you help shape it.
A Learning Intervention Focused Tutor provides one-to-one support for students who need sustained help beyond group-based support. Arranged at the family’s expense.
Yes. AISB supports students with mild to moderate learning and social-emotional needs. Please share all reports and evaluations at application, it helps us plan, not decide.
Every non-native English speaker is assessed on entry. Blended model: sheltered instruction plus co-teaching, so your child builds language while staying connected to grade-level learning.
MTSS includes extension opportunities for more highly capable students, within the classroom and in small-group settings in Elementary.
When your child is struggling, we focus first on making sure they feel safe, understood, and regulated. A child who feels connected is more open to guidance and more ready to learn.
