The power of co-curricular
Outside the classroom, your child finds out what they are made of. Co-curricular activities complement classroom learning by giving students new ways to explore sports, arts, service and much more. Included in the tuition fee, every student from Kindergarten onward can select at least one activity per season. Across three seasonal cycles, Elementary alone offers 45 to 50 choices.

A world of opportunity

Down the hall, a Grade 5 student is being coached through a service project by a Secondary student who volunteered their time at the start of the season.
Sport & Athletics
Three seasons. Nine sports. The Vampires. Football, basketball, volleyball, cross-country, swimming, track and field, tennis, badminton, softball, golf, and rock climbing.
At Secondary level, teams compete in CEESA, SCIS, and BISAAC leagues across Central and Eastern Europe and beyond. Student-athletes coach younger students, captain teams, and carry the Vampires identity long after graduation.
Performing Arts
Students perform in front of real audiences, from Elementary musicals through to full Secondary theater productions. Rock bands, Cabaret Night, and a community dance show run alongside the bigger productions.
The Lunch Lounge gives students a regular informal stage. ISTA and CEESA festivals take students to events across the region.
Clubs, Competitions & Technology
Through, the Bite, AISB’s student-led news publication, young journalists investigate stories that matter, refine their voice, and publish for an authentic readership.
CEESA Academic Competitions like Model United Nations, Speech and Debate, and Mathcounts challenge students to research global issues, articulate complex ideas, and compete in tournaments across Europe.
Service & Leadership
Service learning forms an integral part of the Secondary experience, connecting student initiatives directly to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Here, leadership is an active practice: students guide peer councils, mentor one another, and serve alongside faculty on school decision-making panels.
IFor students pursuing the Global Impact Diploma (GID), learning extends far beyond the classroom. Participants complete a semester-long internship with a local Bucharest organization and lead an original Impact Project. Over two years, students document their journey, culminating in a public exhibition.
Experiential Weeks
Each September, Secondary students trade the classroom for a week off campus in the Romanian countryside, engaging in outdoor adventures from hiking and camping to village homestays and team challenges.
This week is built into the academic calendar and counts toward learning goals. The habit of trying, choosing, and committing starts early.

Athletics runs across three seasons: autumn (cross-country, football, tennis, badminton, volleyball), winter (basketball, swimming), and spring (track and field, softball, tennis, volleyball). Golf and rock climbing are also available. At Secondary level, teams compete in CEESA, SCIS, and BISAAC leagues.
Dance, drama, music, and visual art run across all sections. Elementary students perform in musicals; Secondary students in theatrical productions.
Service learning is embedded in the curriculum for all Secondary students. Each student connects their work to one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, choosing a global issue, exploring its local dimension in Bucharest, and taking real action. Projects range from community partnerships to international expeditions.
Across every section. Secondary students run councils, coach younger athletes, contribute to The Bite, and serve on school decision-making panels. In Elementary, students serve as Student Hosts, Library Council members, Tech Bats, and CCA, Music, Art, and Language Ambassadors. Leadership is embedded in the life of the school, not reserved for a few.
CEESA (Central and Eastern European Schools Association, 20+ years), SCIS (Sports Council of International Schools, six European schools), and BISAAC (Bucharest International Schools Athletics and Activities Conference, local Bucharest competition).
Experiential Weeks are week-long, off-campus learning journeys in the Romanian countryside every September. Fully integrated into the Secondary curriculum, these trips focus on personal growth, teamwork, and practical skills through immersive outdoor learning.
Kindergarten students can choose one or two CCAs per season, across three seasons, included in tuition. From the ELC onwards, field trips are part of the learning program, linked to units of inquiry and followed up in the classroom.
Co-curricular activities start in Kindergarten, with students choosing one or two options per season. Younger learners (ELC) do not take after-school CCAs, but receive age-appropriate enrichment through field trips and daily specialist instruction during regular school hours.
