Who We Are
Serving the international community for 60 years and counting.
The American International School of Bucharest is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1962 by the US Embassy to serve the educational needs of the American and international expatriate community.
With a history that spans six decades, AISB now serves over 900 students from more than 60 nationalities, from age 2 to 18, on our ten-hectare, purpose-built campus.
Vision
We aspire to be a creative, courageous and compassionate community of learners.
Mission
AISB engages learners with a rigorous and balanced international education that inspires students to get the best from themselves and others, ethical in their actions and open-minded in their thinking about the world.
Accreditations
AISB is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the Council of International Schools (CIS), and is an IB World School, authorized by the International Baccalaureate to offer all of their programs – the Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programmes.
We participate in the Central and Eastern European Schools Association (CEESA), which provides a variety of academic, artistic and athletic competitions and experiences to our Secondary School students.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)
The American International School of Bucharest is committed to creating a safe, equitable and inclusive learning community where everyone feels a sense of belonging.
We strive to ensure that all members of our community, students and families, staff and faculty are provided with equitable access and opportunities in an environment where they are accepted, valued, and encouraged to be their authentic selves.
AISB is a place where human dignity is affirmed.
Our Faculty
At AISB, we are engaged in a fascinating conversation about how we prepare our students for what is a fast-changing world.
We want to attract forward-thinking professionals to our faculty who have the human skills to actively engage and inspire our students.
Student success starts with well-crafted learning experiences, and at AISB we are proud of a dedicated community of educators who have a passion for learning and continuously seek to improve.
We are interested as much in who you are as in what motivates you, what life experience you will bring with you, and what you think really matters in education.
Together, we discuss established and new ideas that are in line with our beliefs and seek to grow our capacity as educators and learners.
In this spirit, we seek professionals who actively collaborate with colleagues and who are willing to try fresh approaches to teaching and learning.
Professional Learning
Our colleagues share a commitment to reflect on their professional practice, model active learning and support the vision and mission of the school.
Professional learning at AISB considers how adults learn best and shares the same principles that we apply to all learners in our community.
Co-curricular Program
We believe that students thrive when given opportunities to follow their passions and develop new skills beyond the classroom.
At AISB, teachers are expected to actively participate in the school life beyond the classroom, taking on coaching, co-curricular learning design, and/or supervision duties.
Safeguarding
At AISB, keeping children safe is everyone’s responsibility.
We have a duty of care to provide a safe and inclusive environment for all. This duty is exercised through the development of caring, professional relationships and behavior that demonstrates integrity and good judgment.
All adults at AISB play an important role in safeguarding students from harm, through early identification of students who may be at risk, and educating students about keeping safe and their individual rights.
Training on child protection awareness and procedures occurs on an annual basis.
All employees go through a rigorous vetting process with regard to child protection. It is school policy to actively seek confidential references for all new employees.
