Life at AISB

We come from everywhere.

From Seoul, São Paulo, Amsterdam, Nairobi, and from the end of something familiar into something new. This is a school for the question-asker, the idea-chaser, the change-maker. Students wrote our mission:

I’ve been at AISB since Grade 4. It’s the kind of place where you’re encouraged to try things even if you might fail. That’s made me braver in ways I didn’t expect.

A week in our life

The school day starts at 8:00am.

In Elementary, Friday mornings begin with the whole school gathered for music. In Secondary, an Advisory mentor checks in about how we are doing. Lunch is at Stradale, the campus cafeteria. You will see other students from across all three sections there.

Every week, we study Programme of Inquiry, Literacy, Math, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, Languages and PE.

After school, over 40 co-curricular opportunities run across three seasonal rounds. Athletics practice, CCA rehearsals, student council meetings, club sessions. There is so much to do!

We explore

Questions are starting points. The International Baccalaureate (IB) approach means we learn to investigate, test, and build on what we find. That habit forms early. By the time we leave AISB, thinking for ourselves is nothing new.

We dream

From Grade 1 through Grade 12, we spend lots of time in the arts. In Elementary: music, visual art, drama. In Secondary: original compositions, full theatrical productions, and The Bite, AISB’s student journalism publication. We pitch, edit, and publish.

We create

In the lab, ideas meet constraints and solutions have to work. Science labs, the Design Center, robotics workshops. Our robotics teams compete at CEESA level against international schools across Central and Eastern Europe. The Design Center is where prototypes get built, tested, and rebuilt.

Advisory & SEL

Regular Advisory meetings in Secondary. Dedicated social-emotional learning time every day across all sections.

Co-Curricular Activities

Three seasons of sport, arts, clubs, and service. 45–50 options in Elementary alone. Activities run after school most days.

Friday Music & Community

Friday Music fills the Atrium. Community assemblies and section gatherings.

Parent Community

Regular Coffee Mornings with the Director, weekly Yoga, Weekly Buzz newsletter every Friday. Toddle (Elementary) and Seesaw (Secondary) for real-time updates.

Languages & culture

French or Spanish every week from Grade 1, with Romanian on the timetable. EAL support runs alongside classroom learning. Mother tongue classes are available for more than thirty languages.

The rhythm of the AISB Year

September
Experiential Week & Terry Fox Run

Secondary students head off campus into the Romanian countryside. The whole community runs for cancer research: a great chance for new families to meet everyone. Autumn athletics begin: cross-country, football, tennis, badminton, volleyball.
Oct–Nov
Tournaments & Halloween

CEESA and BISAAC autumn tournaments. Elementary musical in rehearsal. Secondary theater builds. Speech and Debate. Robotics tournaments. Halloween takes place.
January
New Semester

Winter athletics season: basketball, swimming. CEESA and SCIS winter competitions.
Feb–Mar
Gala & Projects in Spring Season

MYP Personal Project presentations (Grade 10). Spring athletics begin: track and field, softball, tennis, volleyball.

The Gala, raising funds for scholarship students.
Apr–May
PYP Exhibition & International Day

PYP Exhibition: Grade 5 students present self-directed research to families and peers. ISTA theater festival. Spring tournaments. Secondary theater production opens.

International Day: families cook, thirty-plus nationalities take over the campus, and the fair runs all day.
June
Rock in the Park & Graduation

Rock in the Park, live student performances, the whole community on the grass, the school at its most self. Sports Day. Secondary graduations.

Once a Vampire, always a Vampire

The Alumni Association connects former students worldwide. It offers one-on-one career advice, internship connections, networking events, and the bi-annual WORLD magazine.

University preparation begins in Grade 10. Dedicated college counselors, a best-fit philosophy, and a deliberate twelve-application limit that admissions offices recognize as serious. The Global Impact Diploma opens pathways beyond the traditional IB mold.
