Teaching at AISB

Each year new teachers join the AISB faculty and bring with them valuable ideas from their varied teaching experiences which fosters the continued development of our school in order to meet the needs of our students. There are certain qualities we are looking for in recruiting our new faculty members and you are encouraged to review the information below to help you determine if AISB is the right school for you. After having read this section and the Frequently Asked Questions, you will need to complete a short on line application and send a cover letter and your resume.

In order to achieve our mission and philosophy, we seek to recruit highly qualified teachers and administrators who can support the mission of AISBAISB engages learners with a rigorous and balanced international education that inspires students to get the best from themselves and others, ethical in their actions, and open-minded in their thinking about our world.

In terms of AISB’s history, the school was founded in 1962 by the American Embassy to serve the children of Diplomats living in Bucharest at the time. From very modest beginnings of teaching six students in a garage, the campus moved out of the city and is currently located in the northern section of Bucharest near the airport. Our ten-hectare campus hosts students and faculty from over 50 nationalities. AISB is an ideal size- we are large enough to offer a wide range of programs and facilities and yet small enough that every student is known by name and we are able to meet individual student needs with a student teacher ratio of just over 7:1.

AISB’s new modern facility was opened in 2001 and is fully equipped in every way. The school has over 500 computers that are all networked to the Internet. There is a teacher laptop program and the Media Center/Library has nearly 35,000 volumes and subscribes to several external databases.

AISB has a rich and well balanced after school athletic program for elementary, middle and high school students. We participate in the Central and Eastern European Schools Association (CEESA), which provides our Middle and High School students with a variety of academic, artistic and athletic competitions and experiences.

Romania is a vibrant, emerging European Union member country where growth and change abound. Consider becoming part of our dynamic school community in this exciting, beautiful part of Europe.
