Mother Tongue Programs
One of the ways to foster international education is by nurturing and stimulating high-level mother tongue proficiency. At AISB we believe it is essential to maintain and encourage the development of our students’ mother tongue, since it supports further language acquisition, helps students develop personal identity and addresses many social, emotional and academic needs. The mother tongue program gives students the opportunity to have more learning experiences, to develop academic language, add to their knowledge, grow and share ideas, and establish strong relationships.
Currently, the AISB after school mother tongue program serves more than 140 children whose mother tongue is Spanish, Italian, Turkish, German, Dutch, Urdu, Hebrew, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Chinese or French.
If the language you are interested in is not on the list and you would like to see that language being offered in our program, please contact Alina Guzganu, the PYP mother tongue program coordinator or Kate Sorrell, the MYP mother tongue program coordinator. AISB is happy to offer classroom space, copying supplies and encouragement for the creation of new mother tongue classes.
