Principal's Welcome

I would like to extend to you a warm welcome from the Secondary School of the American International School of Bucharest. The Secondary School spans grades 6 through 12 and incorporates both Middle School and High School. AISB endeavors to combine the best elements of both American and International education. We are an International Baccalaureate World School, and the Secondary School is proud to offer both the IB Middle Years Program and the IB Diploma Program. To my mind, the programs of the IBO represent the very best in international education.

The IB Middle Years Program provides a stimulating and challenging educational experience for our students in Grades 6 to 10. This diverse and holistic educational program provides an excellent foundation for the academically rigorous IB Diploma which is pursued by the vast majority of our students in Grades 11 and 12. Almost all of our students graduate with both an IB Diploma and an AISB diploma, ensuring them entry into top-quality universities throughout the world.

Apart from a fine academic program, AISB is proud of the many opportunities we provide for students to develop their sports, cultural and diplomatic skills. We are a proud member of CEESA (Central and Eastern European Schools Association) and our students participate in a wide variety of athletic events and intellectual activities such as Math Counts, Speech & Debate, and the Model United Nations. The arts are also very important at AISB and our students have numerous opportunities to perform on the stage, in drama productions, music concerts and through a very lively High School Film program.

Perhaps most important, AISB requires all students, especially those in High School, to become actively involved in community service. We believe that it is important for students from our relatively privileged community to help those in need in Romania. From supporting the "City of Hope" street children's home, to the Victor Babes children's AIDS hospital, to local orphanages, to Amnesty International, our students are involved in hands-on activities bringing support, and hope to others less fortunate than themselves.

AISB is a good school which is in the process of becoming even better. Like all good schools, we are engaged in a constant process of improvement. We hope that you may soon be able to join us.
