Principal's Welcome

AISB's Elementary School serves students age 3 - 11 in Early Childhood though 5th Grade. Class begins at 8:00 for all students. Supervision is provided at 7:40 for children who like to play in the morning. There is a snack time at 9:40 and lunch at 11:30. Early Childhood 3 through Grade 2 are dismissed at 14:30 and Grades 3-5 leave at 14:45.

Our faculty is comprised of 52 teachers, classroom assistants and administrators. The majority of the teachers have lived and taught internationally, and are very experienced educators who are focused on student learning. The faculty comes from over a dozen nationalities.

Our curriculum, the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IBPYP), has been designed specifically for International Schools and leads into the IB Middle Years and Diploma Programs. Through both its curriculum and teaching methods the school aims to develop the intellectual, emotional and physical potential of each child in a welcoming, secure and stimulating environment.

Educating the whole child is central to the IB Primary Years Program. Elementary students spend most of their day with a homeroom teacher who teaches the academic core of language arts, mathematics, and the programme of inquiry.

Single subject teachers provide instruction in Music, Art, French, Spanish, Romanian Mother Tongue, Romanian Culture, EAL, and Physical Education in purpose built classrooms. Information technology instruction is provided weekly in a lab and integrated into the classroom curriculum. There are common areas for shared and large group work, an auxiliary gym and two larger multi-use rooms for meetings or large class projects. Elementary students also have access to the large core facilities of the school, the library, auditorium, main gymnasium. A full service cafeteria provides a mid-morning snack (included in the tuition) and lunch for all students. Lunch cards are purchased by parents.

Classroom learning experiences are enhanced by numerous field trips in Bucharest and the surrounding region. The school has outdoor space which is used for environmental and science study. Gyms, large play areas and sports fields are used alongside classrooms to support a varied after- school activities program to give students additional opportunities to engage in areas of interest or exercise.

The elementary school has frequent assemblies to bring our community of teachers, parents and students together to celebrate learning, to give our studentst the opportunity to demonstrate their communication and other skills, and to build a stronger community.
