AISB Parent-Teacher Organization

Selectie_0008We are sure you are all looking forward to an amazing year for us and for our kids. The PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) would like to welcome you to AISB!

The PTO is an organization of parents and teachers whose goal is to support the education of AISB students by fostering relationships among the school, parents, and teachers. The PTO strives for continued parental involvement to help build a better educational environment for our children.

We provide resources to assist teachers and administration in doing their best work. Through fundraising, the PTO is able to donate funds to purchase equipment for the school. We are also involved in efforts to help the local community.

What you do matters! Especially to your kid!

Our community is blessed with a very enthusiastic and hands-on PTO organization that believes our children are our greatest investment in life! Our Organization supports the education of AISB students by fostering relationships among the school, parents, and teachers, activities and communication between different parts of our community.

Diversity, versatility, multi cultures, enthusiasm, vivacity, high expectations, high participations of our kids and of our valuable volunteers, and many other aspects of our community motivate us even more to enjoy from being active part of such a unique environment, such as the AISB. Blessed even more to be in such a wonderful country like Romania – with its rich cultural heritage, wonderful country side, wonderful people!

Every AISB parent is automatically a member of PTO. There are no membership fees. There are endless possibilities in ways you can help – as much or as little as you like! We need each and every one of our community members to be part of this magic! Whatever time you have to volunteer, help and have fun, it’s going to be of great fun and great help to all: to the community, to you, to your child. Please consider volunteering – we need your ideas and energy.

Thank you very much to the 2016-2017 PTO Executive Team for their hard work this past year: Sorina Muresan-Tulea (President), Marion Siekierski (EC VP), Dawn Kovacs (ES VP), Jema Rahat (MS VP), Fabiana Papastefani (HS VP), Sian Ashenden (Secretary), Despina Szavuj (Treasurer).

Thank you very much to those parents of our community who accepted their nominations and volunteered their time and energy for the upcoming school year. As there was only one candidate nomination per position, the new PTO Executive Committee was selected without an election. We would like to offer our congratulations to the new team

  • Sian Ashenden

My name is Sian Ashenden and I am the mother of a 12th grade daughter. Our family joined the AISB community in 2013.

I have been active in various roles at AISB over the past 4 years: last year I was the Secretary of the PTO and before that I helped to organize volunteers for events such as the Harvest Festival, Festival of Lights and International Day as the United States’ Nationality Liaison.

I am honored to be the President of the PTO and a member of the Executive Team at AISB. I will do everything I can to encourage parent participation, contribute to a positive environment, and to support the teachers, staff and administration of the school. We are here to act as a conduit between the school and families and want to hear from you.

I graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Ga. Tech) with a B.S. in Industrial Management with an emphasis on Computer Science and Accounting. For many years I worked in Higher Education in various computer-related positions. I also worked as a Special Education assistant for 7 years. I have also volunteered for the United Way and was a Girl Scout troop leader.

  • The Vice Presidents help formulate the PTO’s long range plan, work out issues as they arise and participate in executive discussions and decision making. Each Vice President also helps coordinate activities specific to, and is the key contact person for the: Early Childhood, Elementary School, Middle School and High School.

  • Neeta Agnani

My name is Neeta Agnani, mother of an amazing 3 year old daughter. Fairly new to Bucharest and AISB.

I am from India and have been living an expat life for over 17 years. I have a post graduate degree in Early Childhood and worked as a Kindergarten teacher for 10 years. So I have seen the world of education from the perspective of a student, teacher and now a mom. It was not long before I realized, with my outgoing personality, I wanted to do more and try something new. That is when I went on to acquire my degree in Public Relations, Mass Media and Communication. It helped me hone my interpersonal & communication skills that helped me to take on key roles & responsibilities in major global events such as Dubai International Film Festival.

As a ‘had been’ teacher and a mother of a toddler who has just started to settle in to her new surroundings and environment, I believe PTO representatives play an important role by not just being a conduit between parents and school management but also they help keep efficient communication and be a go-to person for new student parents to learn from their experience and also help parents to come together as a community.

My vision is to help not only children but parents feel that school is an enjoyable fun and a safe place to come to and to get parents more involved with the children’s activities at school.

  • Dawn Kovacs

I am originally from the United States, but my home is here in Europe. I have 3 children, currently 7th grade, 4th grade and a 5 year old. I served on the PTO last year as Elementary School Representative and a Classroom Representative. I enjoy being involved and would like to continue in my role as Elementary Representative. As a PTO representative I would like to continue to help parents stay informed of school events, enjoy their time in Romania and become involved in our community. AISB is the place to be!

  • Jema Rahat

Jema RahatMy name is Jema Rahat. Married, have one daughter in 7th grade.

This is my 6th year with AISB, and during these years I’ve been an active member of the PTO community and served for 3 years as ES Vice President and last year as MS Vice President.

Prior to AISB experience I served as the IWA Treasurer, having degree in economics and more than 15 years’ experience in this field.

I help and volunteer for many different NGO programs.

Proud to be a part of the current PTO executive team and looking forward to a successful cooperation and a fruitful year ahead!

Together we can make the world a better place!

  • Fabiana Papastefani

I am Fabiana Papastefani, a mother of one child at the school, currently in grade 12. I am from Italy, but have been moving around the world since 21 years now. I have a Political Sciences and teaching degree, and have worked for many years with various International Organizations and several governments in the Balkans, as well as teaching as a substitute teacher in the International schools where I have moved. I was the PTO President for two years, the High School Representative the last two years, and have been Co-chair for the PTO Gala for the last few years as well. I want to continue to bring prosperity to our PTO through the executive team as the High School Representative since my daughter is there and will be graduating this year.

  • Justine Christianopoulos

My name is Justine Christianopoulos, I have been lucky enough to have been part of the AISB community for 5 years. My 2 sons were graduates from AISB in 2015 and 2016 and my daughter will be a 2018 graduate. One son is currently studying engineering at university in the UK and the other son is studying business at university in the USA. We are dual Australian and Greek citizens and have lived in Australia, the Middle East as well as here in Europe.

This will be my final year as a parent at AISB and I hope to, along with the rest of the PTO Committee, strengthen our community spirit and encourage parents to become involved with the school so that our PTO remains strong into the future.

  • Despina Szavuj

    -Brief personal background:

I came to AISB 8 years ago, when my son started 3rd grade.

For the past 26 years, I have worked as an accountant at the German Embassy.

    -Board, PTO or volunteer experience:

I have been an active member of the PTO for the last 7 years.

I have been a PTO Executive member – Treasurer – for the past 5 years.

    I am an EPC member.

I was a homeroom parent when my son was in grades 3, 4 and 5.

I was involved in Destination Imagination between 2012-2016. As team manager, I accompanied my team to the Global Finals in the US in 2013 and 2014.

I have worked as a volunteer in most of the school/PTO related events.

-Why do you want to serve the AISB community in the capacity of the PTO?

I have the knowledge to serve the community in the capacity of the PTO Treasurer. All the PTO payments so far are done applying the AISB and PTO regulations. There is a clear evidence of the amount of money that was spent and the purpose for which it was spent. I would like to continue my work and lobby more for Grants for teacher and children projects. Also, I would like to keep detailed records of the PTO account.
