AISB Parent-Teacher Organization
We are sure you are all looking forward to an amazing year for us and for our kids. The PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) would like to welcome you to AISB!
The PTO is an organization of parents and teachers whose goal is to support the education of AISB students by fostering relationships among the school, parents, and teachers. The PTO strives for continued parental involvement to help build a better educational environment for our children.
We provide resources to assist teachers and administration in doing their best work. Through fundraising, the PTO is able to donate funds to purchase equipment for the school. We are also involved in efforts to help the local community.
What you do matters! Especially to your kid!
Our community is blessed with a very enthusiastic and hands-on PTO organization that believes our children are our greatest investment in life! Our Organization supports the education of AISB students by fostering relationships among the school, parents, and teachers, activities and communication between different parts of our community.
Diversity, versatility, multi cultures, enthusiasm, vivacity, high expectations, high participations of our kids and of our valuable volunteers, and many other aspects of our community motivate us even more to enjoy from being active part of such a unique environment, such as the AISB. Blessed even more to be in such a wonderful country like Romania – with its rich cultural heritage, wonderful country side, wonderful people!
Every AISB parent is automatically a member of PTO. There are no membership fees. There are endless possibilities in ways you can help – as much or as little as you like! We need each and every one of our community members to be part of this magic! Whatever time you have to volunteer, help and have fun, it’s going to be of great fun and great help to all: to the community, to you, to your child. Please consider volunteering – we need your ideas and energy.

OUR PTO EXECUTIVE TEAM
Thank you very much to those parents of our community who accepted their nominations and volunteered their time and energy for the upcoming school year.
The votes have been counted and the new PTO Executive Committee has been selected. The votes for Middle School Representative were extremely close and we would like to thank both candidates for this position for participating in the elections. According to the PTO Bylaws (section7), Despina Szavuj’s position as Treasurer will need to be confirmed at the next PTO General Meeting in June. We would like to offer our congratulations to the new team
Sorina Mureșan Tulea
My name is Sorina Mureșan Tulea. My husband and I are parents of a happy and successful 11th grade student. We joined the AISB community in 2007.
Over the past 9 years, I was actively involved in the school life, supporting the school and PTO programs and activities. It was a great pleasure to help coordinating logistics for Auction Gala, International Day, Harvest Festival, Halloween Party, Festival of Lights, Artisans Fairs and more I had the opportunity to work as Class Parent Representative in the ES, to participate in the Food Service Committee, Policy Committee and the Scholarship Committee, also as a member of the PTO Executive Team.
I have served as PTO President during the school year 2015 – 2016, also as PTO Vice President, Middle School Representative from 2012 to 2014. Together with a great PTO executive team – and with the guidance and involvement of many dedicated parents – we’ve assisted the teachers and the school management professionals, focusing on the effectiveness of positive communication between families and school.
We have contributed to creating and implementing of the extensive parent meetings and workshop program here, at AISB. We have created more opportunities for the community to come together, stay informed and connected, and learn how to better support the students.
It is my honor to serve the children and the families of AISB. I strongly believe in the partnership between school and home being a solid foundation for students well-being and academic success. This has made AISB one of the most open, trustful and inspiring community for over 50 years.
Since “it takes a village to raise a child”, my family and I are very thankful for the sense of community that we find here at AISB. Thank you!
Background: I graduated from Academy of Economic Studies Bucharest – Tourism and Hospitality Management, earned an Executive MBA in Business Administration, certified as Leadership Management International facilitator and provider of Family Motivation programs, as well as certified Family and Organizational Constellations Facilitator.
My business background includes over 15 years of entrepreneurial and business management experience in an American-Romanian company, specialized networking and trade show organizer.
The Vice Presidents help formulate the PTO’s long range plan, work out issues as they arise and participate in executive discussions and decision making. Each Vice President also helps coordinate activities specific to, and is the key contact person for the: Early Childhood, Elementary School, Middle School and High School.
Like a lot of you, I have lived and worked (as a development professional for international organizations) in many different countries over the last 20 years. Originally from Germany, I met my Canadian husband along the way and we have two sons, aged 7 and almost 5. We’ve arrived in Bucharest – our first European posting – last summer and are very happy here, exploring the country, enjoying the rich cultural life and all that Bucharest has to offer.
My vision is to contribute to making the school life of the EC members of our AISB community happy, stimulating and inspiring; listening to and addressing parent’s concerns and suggestions and facilitating positive relationships between the school, parents, and children.
I am originally from the United States, but my home is here in Europe. I have 3 children, currently 6th grade, 3rd grade and a 4 year old. I served on the PTO this year as Elementary School Representative and a Classroom Representative. I enjoy being involved and would like to continue as Elementary Representative for next year. As a PTO representative I would like to continue to help parents stay informed of school events, enjoy their time in Romania and become involved in our community. AISB is the place to be!
My name is Jema Rahat. Married, have one daughter in 6th grade.
This is my 5th year with AISB, and during these years I’ve been an active member of the PTO community and served for 3 years as ES Vice President.
Prior to AISB experience I served as the IWA Treasurer, having degree in economics and more than 15 years’ experience in this field.
I help and volunteer for many different NGO programs.
Proud to be a part of the current PTO executive team and looking forward to a successrul cooperation and a fruitful year ahead!
Together we can make the world a better place!
I am Fabiana Papastefani, a mother of one child at the school, currently in grade 11. I am from Italy, but have been moving around the world since 20 years now. I have a Political Sciences and teaching degree, and have worked for many years with various International Organizations and several governments in the Balkans, as well as teaching as a substitute teacher in the International schools where I have moved. I was the PTO President for two years, the High School Representative last year, and have been Co-chair for the PTO Gala for the last few years as well. I want to continue to bring prosperity to our PTO through the executive team as the High School Representative since my daughter is there.
My family moved to Bucharest in 2013 and I have enjoyed being part of the AISB community ever since. I have one daughter in 11th grade.
I joined the PTO Executive Team so that I can be more involved with the school and, as Secretary, to continue to build on the communication tools that the preceding teams have put in place. I have seen the PTO make great strides forward since we have been in Bucharest and I want to be a part of that continued parent-teacher-administration connection. I believe that my experience as a volunteer at PTO events and also as a parent allows me to represent those interests on the Board. I am very organized and believe in planning ahead so that everyone is informed about upcoming events and activities and has the opportunity to be involved. I also want to ensure that minutes from General Meetings are made available to anyone who is interested. Open communication is the key to building partnerships and ensuring that every voice is heard and multiple viewpoints are considered. I believe in having a positive outlook and finding solutions, not creating problems.
-Brief personal background:
I came to AISB 7 years ago, when my son started 3rd grade.
For the past 25 years, I have worked as an accountant at the German Embassy.
-Board, PTO or volunteer experience:
I have been an active member of the PTO for the last 6 years.
I have been a PTO Executive member – Treasurer – for the past 4 years.
I am an EPC member.
I was a homeroom parent when my son was grades 3, 4 and 5.
I have been involved in Destination Imagination for the last 4 years. As team manager, I accompanied my team to the Global Finals in the US in 2013 and 2014.
I have worked as a volunteer in most of the school/PTO related events.
-Why do you want to serve the AISB community in the capacity of the PTO?
I have the knowledge to serve the community in the capacity of the PTO Treasurer. All the PTO payments so far are done applying the AISB and PTO regulations. There is a clear evidence of the amount of money that was spent and the purpose for which it was spent. I would like to continue my work and lobby more for Grants for teacher and children projects. Also, I would like to keep detailed records of the PTO account.
