The HS Softball Girls traveled to Prague, where unfortunately, the softball Gods did not look over the girls too well, as the girls came away with 5th place. The young team which was comprised of only 9th and 10th graders did gain valuable experience, and are looking forward to the next softball season already. The HS Boys Softball and Tennis event was hosted here at AISB and was a great event, as large crowds came out on both days to cheer on the Vampires. The boy’s tennis team of Eric M, Marc M, Andrei B and Vlad C worked and played hard throughout the weekend earning themselves 2 silver medals in the singles competition and a bronze in the doubles. This earned the team a 3rd place finish – making it the 3rd year in a row the HS Boys have been in the top three. Over on the softball diamond the boys team pitched, fielded and hit their way to a 3rd place finish, missing out on the coveted spot in the championship game by the smallest of margins. AISB, ASW and MOS all finished in a three-way tie for 1st place after the round robin, and to break the tie, the very seldom used “run differential” tie-breaker was used. Unfortunately the Vampires had the lowest of the run differentials, which bumped them out of the finals. To their dismay they dug deep and came back to beat Istanbul for third place. Jeremy C and David A were voted as all-tournament players. All in all it was a great weekend of sports.
The final event of the Athletics and Activities Calendar is the HS Awards Evening and Barbecue. This event will take place on Friday May 29th starting at 17:00 in the AISB Theatre and the BBQ will be immediately afterwards. We know it is a long weekend, and sports day, but this is an excellent event to support as we recognize the efforts of our students all throughout the year. The event will be supported by BERA and the American Embassy with the barbecue, however, parents are asked to bring salads and desserts. If your last name starts with A to M please bring a salad, and if your last name starts N to Z please bring a dessert. These food offerings can be dropped off in the cafeteria on the day of the event.
Finally, as the school year winds down, please keep the eye on future newsletters as important information will come out regarding next school year. If you have any questions, comments or concerns please contact Scott Hibbard, Athletics and Activities Director. (Scott Shibbard)
